각뿔은 다각형인 밑면(base)과 꼭대기점(apex)을 연결한 다면체이다. 아래 그림은 사각뿔이다. 꼭대기점에서 밑면에 내린 수선의 발이 밑면의 무게중심(centroid)이면 정각뿔(right pyramid)이고 아니면 빗각뿔(oblique pyramid)이다. 밑면이 정다각형인 정각뿔을 정다각뿔(regular pyramid)라고 부른다.
각뿔대(frustum: 라틴어 조각에서 온 말)는 각뿔을 평행한 두 평면으로 잘라서 만든다.
